Fuel Smarter ("we", "us", "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

What data we collect

Fuel Smarter is designed to collect as little data as possible. When you use the calculator:

Route information — the origin and destination you enter are sent to our server to calculate your route. We cache route results for 24 hours to improve performance but do not store them permanently or associate them with you personally.

Vehicle information — if you enter a number plate or vehicle make and model, this is sent to our server to look up fuel economy. We do not store or log this information.

Fuel prices — we cache fuel prices per country for up to 6 hours to reduce API calls. No personal data is involved.

Server logs — like all web servers, ours automatically logs IP addresses and request details for security and debugging purposes. These logs are retained for 30 days.

What we do not collect

We do not collect your name, email address, or any account information. We do not use tracking cookies or third-party advertising trackers. We do not sell your data to anyone.

Third party services

Google Maps — we use Google's Routes API to calculate driving distances and road types. Google's privacy policy applies to this data: policies.google.com/privacy

Anthropic — we use Anthropic's Claude API to look up vehicle fuel economy and fuel prices. Anthropic's privacy policy applies: anthropic.com/privacy

Cookies & consent

Fuel Smarter uses cookies for two purposes: to remember your cookie consent preference, and (if you accept) to run Google Analytics so we can understand how the site is used.

When you first visit the site, we ask for your consent before setting any analytics cookies. If you decline, no analytics cookies are set and Google Analytics runs in a limited anonymous mode. If you accept, Google Analytics cookies are set to help us understand traffic and improve the site.

Your consent preference is stored in your browser's local storage under the key fs_cookie_consent. You can withdraw consent at any time by clearing your browser's local storage or cookies for fuel-smarter.com.

Your country selection and other settings are stored temporarily in your browser's memory only for the duration of your visit and are not sent to any third party.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR, you have the right to access, correct, or delete any personal data we hold about you. As we collect minimal data and do not store it against identifiable profiles, there is typically nothing to access or delete. If you have questions, contact us below.
